Save The World - One Click At A Time!
On each of these websites, you can click a button to support the cause — each click creates funding, and costs you nothing! Bookmark these sites, and click once a day!

The hunger Site The Breast Cancer Site The Child Health SiteThe Literacy Site The Animal Rescue Site The Rainforest Site
Click here to get the code to post these buttons on your website, myspace profile, or blog

Copy and Paste the below text into your website, blog, myspace profile, etc, and these buttons will show on your space too!

“Adopt” a Missing Person from your state:

Choose a missing person whose story touches you, and post their case and pictures on your myspace profile, blog, website, etc.  Put up flyers in your area for that person several times a year, tell people about their case, etc.  My husband and I chose Becky Kraemer Marzo, because we knew her personally and miss her very much. You don’t have to personally know a missing person to help though!  Do whatever you can think of to try to make a difference for them!

“Adopt” a category on my website:

On my classifieds site, I try to add missing persons cases and remove solved cases regularly, but there are tens of thousands of missing persons in our country, and I am only one person (and I work 50+ hours a week and have dogs that need exercise and love too!)… needless to say, I can seriously use some help here!  If you are willing to maintain the Missing Persons category for your state, I would be eternally grateful.  It’s not without it’s rewards either, if that helps sweeten the pot for you!

Basically, you would be given an account that can post unlimited ads.  You would be responsible for paying attention to missing persons cases in your state, and then creating new ads for missing persons and uploading their pictures to the ads. When you hear that a person is found, you will just edit the ad to just let people know the person is no longer missing (so that efforts can be redirected to a still missing person instead).  You would be using a very easy to use WYSIWYG editor just like the one used in myspace blogs. I don’t expect you to find or post every single case every single day - I know you have a life and a job too!  But I am grateful for any help you can provide.

Your reward, if you have any use for it, is unlimited ads on our site for your own personal or business use.  As long as the ads do not violate our terms of service (no surveys!  no porn!  no pyramid schemes! no 419 or related scams!  etc.) you will be allowed to post unlimited personal or business ads in return for your kindness and generosity.  This is a great offer for a businessperson, church group, nonprofit group, or other organization that has many members who could take turns pitching in for a good cause, and who could benefit from unlimited free advertising in return.  There are other ways I could thank you as well, such as a discount on a professional website package, or a discount on a merchant account. etc.

Take inventory of your unique connections, resources, skills, talents, and ideas and then get creative:

In our case, we decided that the best way for us to help was to use our business websites to promote these cases. I own a web design and marketing company, as well as a popular network of classifieds websites. I have been the volunteer webmaster for 911BC K9 Search and Recovery for over 7 years now. I have also been the webmaster for WISARK9 for almost 3 years. I have been designing websites for over 12 years.  My husband and Father each own their own related companies as well.  Between the three of us, we own over 200 high traffic business websites (and maintain an additional 200+ websites on our clients’ behalf). With all of this in mind, it just seemed natural to use our websites and our internet marketing skills to try and raise more awareness.

Figure out what your own unique resources, skills, connections, and talents are, and then use them to make a difference for somebody who needs help!

Google Wants to Tell You How to Run Your Website

16th April 2007

My formerly beloved Google seems to be turning towards the dark side…

Google Wants to Tell You How to Run Your Website - SEO Class.com

The blog entry above pretty much sums it up, but I would just like to add the following thoughts to this discussion:

I run a network of paid advertising websites (Classifieds websites, one for each state). My Online Classifieds are a fantastic way for people to declutter their garage and make a few extra bucks, or to let my customers have a low cost long term advertising solution from someone they trust, or in some cases, my customers even run their online business without having their own website, simply by using the “Buy it Now” buttons in their ads, and having a featured storefront to showcase multiple items, etc.  It’s much cheaper than having your own eCommerce website, and much easier for them to use.
I would guesstimate that at least 50% of my customers put links up in their ads that point to their websites. This technically construes “paid text advertising”, as their ad is mostly text, and can contain one link to their site if they have one.  They are paying for a classified ad, which includes 1 free link to their website if they have one.
So, Google, riddle me this: Is this new policy going to put people like me out of business and destroy our livelihood? Or are you more so targeting just the spammy kind of text ads such as people who buy a domain name just so that they can use things like google ad words to try and make money? And who decides what is considered spammy?
If Google is the only one allowed to sell paid advertising on their website, aren’t you hobbling most of your customer base? In the past, I have paid for Google ads for several of my classifieds websites, as well as several of my web design clients’ websites. If I were to be De-Listed because I run a site that lets people add their link to my site, I can guarantee that I would never again purchase another google product, or purchase anything from you on behalf of my clients.

I used to run my classifieds for free (it cost me over $200 a month to consume the huge amounts of server space and bandwidth it takes to host my classifieds site) but then I was so bogged down with free SPAM ads (wasting at least 5 hours a day deleting “bad” users, which took me away from my paying work of website design) that I finally gave up and decided to charge a nominal fee just to weed out the SPAMMERS. Since I am allowing them to put a link up in the ad they purchase, do I fit into the “paid text ad” or “paid link” category then? Their classified ad costs $4.95 for 1 year and the link is free - basically paying for the hosting and domain names needed to run the sites - by your definition is that doing something wrong? If so, what is wrong with trying to own a business and make it pay for itself after 5 years of running it at a loss as a gift to my clients?

Get the point? If you start de-listing sites that offer paid advertising, you risk alienating these people whose business will be severely hurt by this policy.

Also, not to sound melodramatic, but have you ever read a little book called 1984? Or heard of the McCarthy witch hunt? When I heard that Google was encouraging people to “turn in” websites who offer paid advertising, I immediately thought of the tactics used in 1984, where children were trained in school to tell on their family members and neighbors for “talking against the government”. Or during the witch hunts, when people turned others in because they would gain if the other lost their credibility… Well how do you propose to ensure that people won’t “turn in” their competitors just to try and gain a little extra rank for themselves by “killing” the competition? Are you going to demand bank records to make 100% sure that it actually WAS a paid link before you de-list the sites that you *think* offer paid advertising? And don’t you think that it’s all a bit “big brother is watching”?

Well, that’s my 2 cents worth, for what it’s worth. I hope it doesn’t get me de-listed. :)
